I would have assumed that Sledgehammer, should it exist, would include a 128-bit interface. More memory bandwidth would increase the performance in multi-processor systems. In desktop systems, however, 128-bit memory interfaces only add to cost, which is one of the reasons why the nForce was such a failure. Either way, though, with the memory interface designed around PC2700 memory, AMD misses out on the opportunity to capitalize on DDR400. This is one of the basic caveats to adopting an integrated memory interface. I'm surprised you don't realize that.
