Hi Tommaso, I have not sold physical gold but have seen it (bullions and taels) sold while buying, though not in US, but in Hang Seng Bank in HK. Walk up to the counter, plop them on the marble surface, show ID, collect check for large sale, cash for small.

At the same bank, as I mentioned much earlier, they have stopped selling platinum bullion, but still buys, or at least told me they buy.

I do not think physical is a way to speculate. Paper is good for that. Physical is for mental peace. In Asia, if one has to sell physical, one either over-allocated to it to begin with or in deep trouble on all other fronts (as in Asian Financial once-in-100-years Storm).
