Hi Jim - You are right, it is risky.

I get real time quotes over the internet. You can pay a small monthly fee to a number of providers and watch it till your heart's content. To see the actual trades you have to get the broker to 'read the tape'. I never tried to get a hold of 'the tape' myself -except that the broker sent it to me on occassion, upon my request. Besides if you are watching it in real time you can see each trade and whether it was a buy (+) or a sell (-) and how big it was. I don't think helps too much to watch every detail because you go crazy waiting around for someone to trade a 100 shares just to see the numbers change. I get unlimited free quotes from Schwab and so I just watch it as much or as little as I feel like. Rather than watch it that close, it is probably better, when it settles into a 'trading range' like between 62 and 71 to use limit orders to buy it at say 63 and sell it at say 69 - and just check in a couple of times during the day and see if you got lucky. But, you have to guard against big unexpected moves that could wipe you - that is the risky part. You may want to consider some of the strategies that Hugh and I have been discussing in recent posts to accomplish the 'insurance' side of it. Hope you can make a few bucks on it! RH
