It must be said that I do know a number of liberally persuaded folks and most of them I get along with just fine. In fact it is by talking with these folks I get to looki inside the liberal mind and see what they are thinking. I enjoy these hospitable conversations because it both tests my own thinking and gives them a chance to rethink many assumptions that they had taken as sacrosanct before.

A basic human thought is "Things would be better for everyone if only we'd all.....". Liberals tend to be dreamers. They have many ideas that, were they workable, might indeed make life better. However, when faced with the practical side, the reality that "the plan does not work", they see opposition to be based on some sort of mean spiritedness (which may also be present).

The extreme liberals are just that, extreme, and in their selfcentered minds thay see themselves as protectors of all that is right and just, defenders of the dream. They are justified in their behavior because they are rightous in their defense of the dream. In this way they are the mirror image of that which they hate the most, the religious right zealot.

This is why facts are inconsequential to them. If the facts don't square with the dream, ignore the facts. It is "The Dream" that reigns supreme.
