A large part of the fault, IMO lies here. They didn't do their jobs. sec.gov
Their entire organization needs to be reviewed, more people hired, the 1933 & 1934 laws need to be reviewed with the present time era in mind, (they were written 70 years ago) they need to be strengthened, (increases in fine amounts) & they need to be able to bring criminal actions, with lengthy jail times available.
As it stands now, it is an outdated, understaffed, meaningless agency. If you can steal 100 million, only be fined 10 million, not face any jail time, the old adage "crime doesn't pay" is false. The politicians didn't do anything they haven't done "forever", and they ALL, both republican and democrat have dirty hands. But until the sec is changed/fixed, the potential for problems will not go away. |
