I think that the world would be a nicer place if the US made it a policy to sell better crowd control equipment world wide. This is under the theory that it's in the natural interest of a state to keep its citizens in line, and if you have tear gas available, you don't have to shoot as many.

What Americans sometimes forget, when reading of other governments shooting "peaceful" protestors, is that our nation has a good long history of shooting "peaceful" protestors, but that it more or less ended with the development of less lethal crowd control measures.
