I thought the French farmers had them all blockaded. :-)

I think that was two weeks ago...some other organization is striking or blockading this week. It's hard to keep track of the French.

Barcelona shopping makes Manhattan look like a mini-mart [and I have been shoppin in Manhattan].
Is this characteristic of Barcelona in particular or Spain in general? And how does it compare to, say, London?

Barcelona is well known for the shopping aspect. It was rather incredible. Every little kind of shop you could imagine to the largest department store in all Europe...the sucker was monstrous. It's not a discount city but nor is it as obscene as London. I think the prices were pretty reasonable. Though I didn't inquire as to some of the prices on original oils by Giro..why ask when you already know you can't touch it?

The shopping is more extensive in Barcelona. I think I'd put London on a par with Manhattan. Making some adjustments for European tastes over American tastes. Saville is substantially small than Barcelona and tends towards the smaller shops. Probably a bit less expensive.

Barcelona is one of my 5 star tourist cities [if you don't have a great vacation in a 5 star tourist city, you shouldn't take vacations]. Barcelona is also more tourist friendly than Saville. Not implying that they are unfriendly in Saville, they just tend to stick with Spanish. Barcelona is much like Prague in the respect that it is multi-lingual. Hence, easier for the tourist. But we got a great little cultural history lesson on Spain from the concierge in Saville. A couple of the locals in Barcelona recommended Toledo as a good vacation spot.

BTW, they have ol' Christopher Columbus' bones in Saville. I didn't know that Chris was buried in Cuba...after Cuba became independent they moved Chris to Saville.
