It comes down to this: When you're trying to compete with some one, you want to compete where you're strong, not where your opponent is strong. AOL would like the "battle" w/ Microsoft to be about things like brand, advertising, subscribers, etc. The last thing they want to do is compete in OS'es, where they just will not win.
