re:<strong presence of 1 GHz mobile Durons in todays ads>
I was extremely pleased by today's ads compared to the last month. Even CompUSA advertised an AMD laptop on page 1, Best Buy had an XP2000 and an XP1900 and many laptops, and most of the P4's advertised were lower end machines.

As for P4 Northwoods, there were NO 2200's and only one 2000 MHz machine.

The AMD ads were actually flashier than Intel's. The Intel pricing on desktops was generally more aggressive, however, but the AMD pricing on laptops was equally more aggressive.

For example, on the desktop side, compare
Intel 2000A Northwood+512M DDR+120GB+16XDVD+24XCDRW+64M GEForce2+17" Samsung+Canon S300 printer at $1,400 to
AMD XP 2000+ +512M DDR+80GB+DVD/CDRW combo+48X CDROM+64M GEForce2+SB Live+slightly better speakers at $1,680

I figure the parts in the Intel package are worth $50-$100 more than the AMD package, but this is balanced by the fact that the 2000A system is an unknown brand vs. Compaq for the AMD system.

Still, the "brand name premium" for Compaq is way too high. $77 less for the CPU, $50-100 less for the rest of the system, yet they are trying to sell it for $380 MORE.
