There's always been debate about keyframe animation vs. motion capture. Theres a good article at cgw.com that covers the pros and cons. Each are suited for certain tasks. It is also important to remember that one of Mainframe's advantages is that they have some of their own programs that deal with the most difficult parts of keyframe animation and help automate the process. They're not incompatible and I believe that there are a number of commercial products that can be integrated right into SoftImage, which is the basis for most CGI animation.
There's still very few folks who have econimically made CGI animation for TV. The key is programs, contents, stories and you joint venture partners anyway. Animation is a hugely growing area, there's plenty of room. That's why I like these guys thoough. Their partners are A-1, top-of-the-class: IMAX, Elec. Arts, Hasbro, Irwin, Polygram, Storyopolis, Warner Bros, Henson Int'l, Claster, Alliance, YTV, Millesime, etc.... |
