I remember reading a sad story in the Chicago Tribune about one such Arab-American woman who had moved with her family to the West Bank when it looked like peace was at hand. Then one day soon after the latest intifada started her eight year old son came home from school and said, "Mommy, when I grow up I want to become a shahid (martyr)". She said, "That's it, we're outta here" and moved everyone back to Chicago. Sensible woman.
