Now why would say (you) something like that? Well, it's been a bad month for authority figures all around. The Roman Catholic Church has been forced to change its policy and now must inform the public authorities when it is investigating cases of child molestation by the clergy. So much for self-regulation. And in another arena, I've just been watching CBS's 60 Minutes, an organization that unlike some of us can't be easily dismissed as part of the "black helicopter" conspiracy theory fringe and they gave over one segment to the sad case of a Massachusetts man who was wrongfully convicted of murder in the mid-'60's, in order to protect a Mafia hit man who was an FBI operative. Well known to J. Edgar Hoover, according to recently released documents. Today, Rep. Dan Burton (R. Ind.) is proposing stripping J. Edgar Hoover's name off of FBI headquarters because of his shameful malfeasance and treachery. Burton didn't bring up the dresses.... Seems that our most trusted authorities in this society are often not what they seem. And often they are, like Ken Lay, scoundrels who hide their crimes in any way possible. Actually, it would appear that I wasn't brainwashed enough as a child to suit the rightwingnuts around this neighborhood who would prefer that the people not know about how the game is really played and who the winners are supposed to be. The word is getting out, like in William Greider's "Who Will Tell the People" amazon.com Sadly, when I examine the latest polls done by the New York Times and CNN, it is all to clear that the "people" have their head in the sand as to the terrible state that American democracy is in. And the absolute mockery of reality that modern GAAP and pro forma accounting has become. Exactly the sort of lying in plain sight that caused thousands of naive Enron employees to lose their life savings.
