Chanos is a very capable analyst...especially where accounting is concerned. His track record has ups and downs because sometimes he tries to call the market and sometimes the market doesn't care about accounting. His presense on the other side of TYCO is definitely disconcerting, and for me a reason to keep the position modest. Nevertheless, an outside analyst is always at a disadvantage to the company in terms of knowing the whole story. DK's willingness to expose the enterprise to intense IPO scrutiny and the low expectations embodied in the current multiple indicate more upside than down.
