Accounting irregularity or errors are plenty. Many re-state their earnings, several hundred millions. example: LU. Individual investors don't better than analysts, example: ENE....

Yah, and therein lies the root of the problem. In recent years business has become more concerned with managing public/professional expectations via stock prices, and less in the real job of doing right by their fiduciary responsibilities. As a consequence there's been a very real increase in opacity when it comes to financial statements, etc..

But history proves this is part of the inevitable 'blow-off' of manias and bubbles. Yet again human beings, as a herd, fail to learn from the past. So it goes....
