fyodor Rd...Actually, you are wrong. Hector clearly stated that they had shipped 10s of thousands XP2000+ in Q4:<<<<<<<<
Hector said "shipped" and Elmer changed it to "can only make". There is a difference between the amount of chips shipped; the amount actually made; and the amount one "can only make". The difference between amount shipped and the amount made, makes up inventory. The difference between the actual amount made, and the amount one can make, is the difference between capacity (the maximum production with all machines producing that product) and production utilization percentage. (which is the amount scheduled to be produced to meet expected sales) In addition, look at Elmer's statement. Elmer Re..."The XP which AMD can only make in 10s of thousands is almost as fast as Intel's high volume NWs so that makes things great"<<< You will note that Elmer said "can only make Tens etc." as if AMD would have converted all of it's lines to produce a chip AMD wasn't even selling yet; because the XP2000 wasn't officially announced until Jan. of this yr. Does that make any sense to you. Secondly, Rob, during the CC stated that production started in the 4q; but didn't state when during the quarter, what percentage of overall production was used to produce the XP2000, or what percentage of the production of XP2000 was shipped in order to stuff the channels prior to announcement.
That would be like me telling you that because only 1 of 5 GM models sold with GM's new OLDs starfire engine, it is obvious that was all of the Starfire engines GM could make. Not so. Maybe it was all that GM could sell, so GM limited production of that particular engine. Same here.
Regardless, depending on your choice of performance metric, Elmer's comment that the XP2000+ is almost as fast as one of those NWs is not unreasonable.<<<<
By most testing sites, the XP2000 is faster than the NW 2.0 and certainly faster than the 1.9 ghz.; so Elmer must have been talking about either the XP1900, or the XP1800, or the XP1700, or possibly even the XP1600, as they all are almost as fast as the NW 2.0 ghz or the NW 1.9. I have no idea which model was the high vol. NW, but neither do you or Elmer. Besides he is trying to compare production of a chip, the XP2000, which isn't even selling yet; against several models of chips which were. What is he trying to say. That a selling chip outsold a not for sale chip. Gee, I'm surprised to hear that. |
