Clash Of The OC'd Titans:
Athlon XP 2300+ vs. Pentium 4/3000

tomshardware.com

Tom's Hardware pits more overclocked processors together. The Pentium 4 3GHz, as before, is equipped with DDR memory. However, this time there is also a 2.6GHz and 2.4GHz Pentium 4 with RDRAM for comparison, and they do quite well, IMO. It looks like higher bandwidth memory can make quite a big difference at higher clock speeds (<cough><cough><gives Milo a nudge><G>). The Athlon was able to make it to 1.93GHz, but only with watercooling and a 1.92V voltage. The more stable overclock was at 1.86GHz, which translates into a model number of 2300+, and that's what the Pentium 4 was compared to.

As a sneak preview, it appears that a 2.4GHz Pentium 4 can keep up quite well to the Athlon 2300+, should both get launched next quarter.

Edit: I thought I'd go over the lineup, since it seems a little confusing at first.

Pentium 4 with DDR - 3.0GHz (22 * 137MHz)
Pentium 4 with RDRAM - 2.6GHz (22 * 118MHz)
Pentium 4 wiht RDRAM - 2.4GHz (22 * 110MHz)
Athlon XP 2300+ - 1.86GHz (12 * 155MHz)
Athlon XP 2200+ - 1.80GHz (12 * 150MHz)

All other CPUs are at their rated speeds.
