Yep, it sure could, yet T.I. seems to be saying that the main reason is that they had way higher than average spending last year to install the new fab factory and since that is essentially done, the level will naturally fall. Like I said, anything can happen.

[Update] Announces that FY02 capex will be $800 mln, compared with $1.8 bln in FY01; to put this in context, Salomon Smith Barney had estimated $1.2 bln in capex for FY02, so it appears that TXN's number is a bit lower than what the Street had expected. According to TXN: "The decline follows significant capital expenditures in 2000 and the first quarter of 2001 to install the initial production line of TI's new DMOS6 300-millimeter fabrication facility in Dallas and to upgrade three analog fabrication facilities to 200-millimeter wafers."
