You state:

I guess it all depends on how you think of God (aka Allah).

Quran (and Hadith) create an image of god that is not so forgiving and in fact rather harsh and contradictory (e.g. all men are created equal, and yet we have slaves and of course women seem to be viewed differently than men who are claimed to be equal!!).

Also Islam's god seems to be obsessed with sex and in general is very much concerned from waist down (if you know what I mean!). For your leisure reading I strongly suggest reading the Book of Hadith (or heck even Quran should do)... Here are some samples from the book of Hadith (which is used to better understand Quran and Islam in general):

Now it seems everytime Hadith (and Quran) are placed under microscope and deep inside of these books are brought to the surface, all those who are strong defenders of Islam kind of disappear! However this disappearance comes usually after providing some ridiculous explanations. An example of this is the following where our good friend Amein tried very hard to explain it (before running away from this thread, mocking me and anyone else who tried to explore Quran and Hadith, and started his own thread and blocked so many of us from posting to his thread!)!

According to the book of Hadith:
"The witness of a woman is equal to half of that of a man because of the deficiency of the woman's mind" Hadith vol. 3:826

And I quote the explanations Amein provided (http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=16441409)

"here is the reasoning behind having to have 2 women instead of one man... the verses in Quran add that "so that if one of them (of the women that is) forgets, the other shall remind her" ... and guess what, modern day medical research has shown that women are more prone to being forgetful than men... I am sorry that I don't have the article that was published by a renowned researcher... a woman nevertheless... but I am sure if one searches for it, he / she will find it..."

Assuming someone (and I do not know who?!) could accept the above illogical ridiculous explanation, one thing that need to be considered is the fact that he never provided (and in fact I could not find) any links to such scientific findings that women forget far more than men do... LOL!

In any event.... LOL

- Addi
