Munich Olympics Hostage Crisis I watched the documentary "One Day in September" on HBO last night. In 1972 the Palestinian group of 8 terrorists called "Black September took 12 Israeli Olympians hostage. One Israeli broke free in the beginning and the rest were killed. Israel requested to send in a special assault team after 2 Olympians had been killed, but was denied. German police instead started to mount a assault which was called off after they realized the terrorists were watching them take positions on TV as it was being filmed by the news media. The assault was canceled and German police agreed to transport the terrorists and hostages to a airport. Television news next reported that all the hostages had been released. In the ensuing battle at the airport 5 0f 8 terrorists were killed and the remaining 9 hostages were killed. Several weeks later the German government faked a airline hijacking and released the 3 surviving terrorists. Since that time, 2 of the 3 Palestinian terrorists have been assassinated by the Israeli government. I've just touched the highlights, but the German police made other gross errors in judgment not mentioned here. I recommend the documentary. * * *
