Agreed. Though, while the differences seem obvious to those of us willing to stop and look, too many on Wall Street would rather shoot first and ask questions later - and then ask stupid ones. You'd think these overpaid dweebs could understand that selling your production forward reduces risk and locks in profits and cash flow. Like I said yesterday, MIR is using derivatives just as a smart farmer would - to lock in profits on their production and pass on market risk to other parties. Perhaps these portfolio managers who are selling now should have gone to Ag school instead of b-school. At the very least, they could have taken a finance course or two. Hedging really isn't that difficult a concept.
