>>Think of the fine cuisine and bistro culture of Paris replaced by McDonalds. Is this really a better future? I beg to differ.<<

Tut, tut. Quite snobbish for a country boy miles from the nearest haute cuisine. Nobody is destryong the fine cuisine and bistro culture of Paris, calm down. Restaurants in America are better than they ever were, despite McDonald's - it's just fast food. Women work, people have more disposable income, and voila, there is a market for fast food. Not to mention drive thru, cleaner bathrooms, and pretty good french fries. :)

>>Think of WalMart bullying it's way into markets in Mexico and China, using its tremendous corporate
treasury to ruthlessly destroy indigenous retailers.<<

Refresh my recollection. Is there a consumer on earth who would not rather pay less for the same goods? Is there a consumer on earth who doesn't want wider selection and better service?

Such is capitalism, red of tooth and claw. Nobody ever went broke offering a better deal.
