Ted, <Its clear that Infiniband is more sophisticated than HT but is that sophistication needed with the current generation of servers and networking boxes?>

Infiniband and HyperTransport serve different purposes. One serves as a general I/O interconnect between systems and I/O, or systems and storage, etc. The other serves as a chip-to-chip interconnect.

<I am considering buying some AMD.>

They should do well in the mobile space as well as workstations. Perhaps they'll even make some headway into low-end servers this year. But they'll start declining in desktop and value, and that'll pose a problem for them.
