IRVINE, Calif.--Intersil Corp. today reported a 7.2% sequential increase in sales to $121.6 million in the fourth quarter compared to $113.4 million in Q3 of 2001. Intersil's sales were 26.2% lower than $164.8 million in Q4 of 2000.

The company recorded a net income of $3.5 million, including amortization for intangibles, in the fourth quarter, compared to a net loss of $3.3 million in Q3. Excluding amortization items, Intersil's adjusted net income was $0.12 per share, which was one cent higher than the consensus on Wall Street, according to First Call/Thomson Financial.

Intersil said its wireless access chip sales increased 27% sequentially to $37.7 million in Q4 from the prior quarter. Power management revenues were up 14% from Q3, said Greg Williams, president and CEO of the Irvine-based company. Intersil's communications analog product sales were $49.4 million in the fourth quarter, an 8% increase from the third quarter. Revenues from other analog products were down 9.2% to $34.6 million in Q4 compared to the prior quarter.

"Due to the continued strength in our wireless access business, we expect an increase of 3-to-5% in total company revenue in the first quarter of 2002 from the fourth quarter of 2001, despite seasonal weakness for computing in the March quarter," Williams said. "We anticipate gross margins of 52% and adjusted earnings per share of $0.12," he said.
