I agree that the "convenience" of using SSNs is really abused and extremely dangerous for the consumer. Fat chance anything is ever going to be done about this kind of identity theft any time soon. Look at the situation with antitheft systems on cars. That's not rocket science, at the moment that smart emission control ignition systems began to appear, ages ago, there was no further excuse for solid antitheft integrated with these systems to not be standard. But the insurance companies make lots of money regardless of car theft, they just up their rates to compensate.

I watch my Equifax credit reports like a hawk, but so far, knock on wood, I haven't had any trouble.
