The thing that irks me is that, while fueling the mania, executives included pension income in order to beat the street. Now, with pensions a liability again, they quickly turn to pro forma earnings to try to wean investors off the notion that pensions generally cost somebody something.

They always say that during a mania, nobody can usually predict the trigger that will end it all. Who'd have thought that the accounting shenanigans could be a trigger. I think if not a trigger, it certainly could be the cause of a LOT of would-be-investors leaving the casino behind for this generation.
