I nearly placed an order with Amazon.com last night. I had entered the order, my physical and e-mail address, phone #, and credit card info, then tried to place the order without making up a password to open an account with them. AMZN would not accept the order without opening the account in their database, where all my info would be stored. I declined their offer to open a file on me and cancelled the order. Amazon lost a $100 sale, because they wouldn't sell without getting and maintaining personal info in their database. When is the last time you went into a book store and couldn't make a purchase without agreeing to have a file opened on you? Bad business practice. Given their losses on sales, it looks like their real goal is to develop a database for their own commercial purposes. I think AMZN will be gone, without major changes.
