"support/resistance" implies that an area is important based upon supply and demand of the issue, contract, etc. I think the 200ma shows absolutely nothing on the VIX. I think you guys are swinging at shadows trying to apply traditional TA to an expression of sentiment like the VIX. It would be like trying to chart and apply TA to a presidential popularity poll. ;)

I agree that the VIX is important at extremes, and I ignore it short term. The only person I've ever seen who seems to be able to divine the significance of the VIX short term (other than a traditional 20BBand 5 day swing) is marginmike, but I can't say I understand how he does it.

I will say, however, that the past two days action on the VIX is like nothing I've ever seen. The dump on Monday with the market basically not moving, followed by a huge move yesterday and another today (with no price action to support it) is the most unusual thing I've ever seen the VIX do. Don't have a clue what to make of it.
