14:14 ET Williams Cos calls sell-off an overreaction (WMB) halted: -- Update -- Co says it remains committed to maintaining its current investment-grade credit rating and considers mkt's response to its earnings pre-release an overreaction not supported by facts. Other than co's internal assessment of whether it will ever have to perform on its WCG contingent obligations, there are no issues, accounting or otherwise, that prompted the delay of releasing 2001 earnings.


14:00 ET Asbestos verdict upheld against HAL & MMM : Both HAL (-7.9%) and MMM (-1.1%) were knocked down to new session lows after a Mississippi Circuit Court upheld an asbestos judgment for a total of $150 mln; Morgan Stanley says that at the time of verdict in October, HAL's liability was $21 mln and MMM's was $22 mln. Firm believes that judgment will be appealed at a higher level, and believes that MMM should hold at the $105 level.
