I don't know if this will answer your question, but FWIW here is a post from yesterday on Yahoo. From what the guy says he is a former sgi employee and I believe an engineer. He has been posting there for several years and IMO is a creditable source.

"Great announcements today! The biggest of which is the "vision" that ties it all together into collaborative solutions. So they've demonstrated financial stability for Q2. Now they've shown a "vision" and a slew of new products to get them there.
Next, EXECUTE!

A note on the products. I noticed the R14KA (500,600Mhz). Good speed bump, more are coming this year. Can't say more.

The Fuel is great. $11K??!! Geeze, you've got to be kidding.
That's what they needed. If any of you have tried to outfit a PC to be "comparable" to an SGI in the graphics department, you know you would spend at least this much and not get the performance. It would look great with flame decals on the side too, wouldn't it?

The Onyx machines are hot. I don't get the pricing on the 300, $118K?? Is that a misprint? I thought it should be cheaper than the 3000? Maybe I'm missing something.

Finally the glue. VAN. Folks, some of you don't realize this is a READ ONLY network connection. So a person at the home office can make a change to the data and people in remote offices can view that data but not make changes remotely. They are sending the display data pixel by pixel over existing WAN/MAN/LAN's. This is great and very useful for the industries it targets, but it doesn't allow a remote user to alter the database. I'm not demeaning this,
I just wanted to make that clear because there were some comments hinting otherwise. Think of it as HiDef TV over the Internet for private data. That being said it is tremendously useful for the existing and new customers in the focus markets.

Somebody else said it, Bishop and SGI are listening to the customers and delivering what they want. Good job SGI!!

TZ

P.s. The guys I know on the inside are very excited about their future. They are telling me to hold mumbling something about double digits:^) "
