tw, quick question, what's the difference between tapeout and 1st silicon? How much time between should we be seing between those 2 events? Tapeout is an antiquated term referring to the shipping of a tape containing the database for the mask set needed for fabrication. It's not done that way anymore but the name has stuck. The time from tapeout to 1st silicon varies depending on the priority assigned at the mask shop and the fab. A very rough estimate is 6-12 weeks. EP
