The month end rally usually continues into the first few trading days of the next month. From Marty Zweig's Winning on Wall St, he quotes the work of Norman Fosback which states that the last trading day of the month and the first four trading days of the next month yield 0.71% per trading period. The rest of the month yielded an annual loss of 6.6%. He tested these findings up to the late 1980's and found similar results. So, I wouldn't be surprised to see the rally continue on Friday and into next week. By the way January is one of the better months on average while February and March are somewhat negative.
