AMD no longer builds fabs. Instead it will take whatever is left over unused in a foundry. "We are good at using other people's money" says Where's Mine Jerry.

Also, as a cost cutting move AMD will soon abandon process development. There is no need to spend money on process R&D when you can depend on someone else. In the brave new world "real men don't have fabs", particularly where AMD can not make money and depends on "other people's money".
