Hi Pat,

Remember a while ago we were speculating about CPQ or Dell
buying MU...... well I've got another one for you. Here's the problem:

<<Dell's challenge is to build a formidable service organization before the company's pricing delta collapses due to channel assembly efforts by IBM Corp., Compaq Computer Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co., said industry executives. Without a strong service offering, Dell will continue to be locked out of the lucrative server arena.>>

Solution: BUY DEC

Why ?
1. DEC has just about the most respected worldwide service
and support organization around with very strong corporate ties.
2. The intellectual property and talent acquired would allow DELL to
offer systems all the way up to the top of the high end market.
3. After Mikey tosses both the CEO and the alpha chip out the back
door he'll get a "high five" from Andy Grove, all INTC shareholders, and all DEC shareholders.
4. Once the street realizes the potential of this acquistion he'll get another one from DELL shareholders.

Last I looked DEC had a market cap of only
5.6 B. Isn't an acquistion of this size doable by DELL ? My gut tells
me DEC will probably miss earnings on 7-24. Add to this a lot of
unhappy DEC shareholders and Mikey could probably swing this
deal for only a slight premium.

Have I lost all my marbles ? All comments are welcome.

Regards,

Lee
