That's the beauty of PCs Charles, they're pretty standard. If John Doe is buying 50,000 HP PCs for a certain price with a certain spec, his account manager will handle this ever-so-difficult (sarcasm) transition for him and he will still get 50,000 PCs at a certain price, whatever the logo on the box says. He will get the same delivery times and the same support. The PCs will run the same software. I don't expect much consolidation on the server front except from a reduction of duplication as old lines become obsolete. Old lines become obsolete anyway so no difficulties for the customer here.

The merged HP/Compaq will make a bit more margin though, due to increased volumes.

I have laughed at this concept of "customer confusion". It is just IBM/Sun FUD. They have ridiculed the idea because they don't want it to happen.

"Duhhh. I is an .. customer. Errr. I used to buy HP but they have merged with Compaq and.. err... now I am errr. confused and ..errr ... will buy from Sun Duh!"

Come on Charles, what's the deal here? Do you get confused when you see a Ford because it has a Mazda engine in it? Do you get confused when you see a Mercedes Benz because they are now part of Daimler Chrysler instead of Daimler Benz? If KFC merged with Pepsi would you get confused and start drinking your Zinger burger?

As IBM might say ... THINK!
