I am glad that Jerry is content killing off Intel's last advantage with a fab coming online in 2005. First, Motorola, now UMC. How many semiconductor operations does he want to destroy? It also sounds like they're projecting an unusually long construction time. Granted, intel's F22 currently holds the industry record for a "Greenfield" Startup (from the dirt) at 18 months, and that is also unusual, but 3 years to build a fab and get started?? Of course, might not be as easy overseas as in Arizona.... :-) Semi
