Nuko don't currently make the MPEG chips in their highlander, IBM does. It does not matter that MPEG2 will go one chip, quite the contrary, this will allow NUKO to re-engineer their encoder boards and sell for less, thus more customers. NUKO is a systems company, they make systems that carry broadcast quality video information across ATM networks in a controllable, monitorable manner. Their technical advantage is in their software and its ability to provide end-to-end quality control, and their hardware, which is able to provide very high quality MPEG2 bit streams. Lets get real here, NUKO and NORTEL partners in April of 1996. Its now July 1997. these customers are TELCOS. they are increadibly slow to do anything. MCI has stated they are spending 200mill on ATM kit and some of that on codecs. Patience is a virtue!!!!!
