VIX and OEX volume...... apologies if this has been mentioned but OEX volume continues to contract drastically each year and now is but a fraction of what it was in the mid 90s. Would this drastic contraction in the someday to be obsolete OEX options (VIX is calculated on 8 OEX calls and puts) not have some impact on its interpretation compared to the past??? I'm hardly an expert in VIX (or anything for that matter) so only asking. Because of its lack of volume some of the option gurus have eliminated VIX in favor VXN. The real question is can the market sustain any type of meaningful rally in the face of so few bears week after week as per Investors Intelligence? Since the early 90s, the present configuration of Investors Intelligence bears has never boded well for any sustained rally.
