The machine I referred to is a DELL XPS T700r which was also purchased in late 99 so my guess is you're OK. XP has built in CD burning software which works just fine for basic stuff. Roxio offers their CD Easy Creator 5 but it's "XP ready" rather than an XP product. You have to jump through a few hoops to patch it to work on XP (details are on Roxio's web site). As long as you're comfortable doing this you shouldn't have a problem.

As I pointed out in an earlier post, you can always download the XP upgrade advisor and it will tell you about any potential problems/conflicts. If you already have an XP upgrade disk it also offers this option on the autorun menu before you decide to install. Most of the compatibility issues are more likely to be with old software (especially system utility stuff) than with hardware. If you're running anti-virus, firewall, or other system-level stuff you'll definitely need to toss the old stuff and find XP-level replacements, though once again XP has some pretty decent native capabilities which supersede the need for a lot of old utility software.
