HOTline Scoop: "Dems Assail Dole For Enron Ties"

hotlinescoop.com

RealNetworks TV ad available from Website - [[Good impact ad, pointing out the hypocrisy and lies of Ms. Dole and her link to corruption. Republicans who had hoped for a 'pass' on politics because of national unity on the issue of fighting terrorism had better get used to the fact that they've cheated the nation by playing the terrorist card for political gain, and now they will suffer the consequences of that ill-conceived bit of Rovian strategy. The Republicans have made themselves fair game for charges of duplicity and corrupt practices, once again. ]]

Dems Assail Dole For Enron Ties

By Jason Zalinger

The North Carolina Democratic Party plans to run a television ad beginning Saturday attacking Republican Senate hopeful Elizabeth Dole for attending a "secret" fundraiser hosted by former Enron Corp. Chairman Kenneth Lay shortly after Sept. 11.
The ad quotes an editorial from the Winston-Salem Journal: "While Dole's campaign was publicly stating it had its activities on hold, it was conducting fundraisers at the house of a scoundrel." The paper also said Dole's campaign "lied" about halting campaign activities after the terrorist attacks.

Murphy Putnam Media produced the spot, which is running in Winston-Salem, Raleigh and Charlotte in North Carolina, and on cable television stations in Washington. It begins running Saturday for 12 days in what Democratic sources called a six-figure ad buy. North Carolina Democrats received financial assistance for the ad buy from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the New York Times reports.

Retiring Sen. Jesse Helms, R-N.C., on Thursday endorsed Dole in the crowded primary to replace him.
