OK, that is fair. I do have an opinion based on preponderance of evidence. I would not go so far as to condemn the involved parties in an irrevocable way...but I think people have a moral responsibility to assess and judge.

I agree it was a moral dilemma. I think that emotional elements were too much of a factor in evading the sword of damocles, however.

We who seek to evaluate the past are also on the horns of a dilemma. I certainly will not denigrate an honest opinion, if it be backed by facts. I think it must be acknowledged that it is not unamerican to take a negative view of the vaporization of these cities. At that point people can examine evidence without being considered unpatriotic; and when necessary people may agree to disagree...

It is not important that everyone agrees; but it is important (IMO) that everyone thinks and has an opinion. Of course, I don't believe you can force people to think; and even if you could...it would be wrong.
