(news/quote) (UAL.N), the No. 2 U.S. carrier and parent of United Airlines, on Friday posted a record 2001 net loss of $2.1 billion, the worst ever in the airline industry, joining the parade of carriers hurt by the Sept. 11 attacks and a drop-off in lucrative business travel.
