I've heard that, at least for the past few months, stock dealer volume accounts for about 70% of all ECN activity. Now, before one jumps to ill-founded conclusions, be mindful that certain ECNs are more widely used by market makers than others: so, while the total volume may be in that 70% region, I'd bet that said volume is concentrated in just a few (two or three) of them.
