<since the beginning of the airline industry, counting every carrier and every flight ever flown there has not been a dime made... losses in fact. Of course, it's crap technology anyway, barely works >

But plenty of airline businesses have made money. Plenty more have lost it. Picking the right ones is essential [but difficult and best avoided I'd say]. Singapore Airlines makes money [I think]. So does Virgin [I think]. British Airways? Cathay?

Most countries feel obliged to have a "National Carrier" to wave the flag. Most patriotism is stupid and self-destructive, mostly serving to profit the members of the in-crowd who participate in the cash flow. Aircrew, managers, government supervisors make the money and have the cushy jobs. The public loses money. But at least they can feel proud of their National Airline as it flies a 747 into the side of Mount Erebus and goes bankrupt or needs another $100 million handout from taxpayers.
