Prince Charles' Charity Received More Than $1 Million From Enron Over Eight Years
The Associated Press

LONDON (AP) - Enron Corp. donated more than $1 million to Prince Charles' charity for disadvantaged youth and its executives met with him at charity dinners, the charity and St. James's Palace said Saturday.

The donations to The Prince's Trust were made over eight years beginning in 1991, a spokeswoman for the trust said. They helped fund education and training programs for youngsters.

Prince Charles met with senior Enron representatives in Houston in 1993 and entertained executives of London-based Enron Europe at his Highgrove country estate as a way of thanking them for the donations, a palace official said. She said it was normal for corporate donors to attend receptions to find out more about the work of the charity.

Rachel Faulkner, spokeswoman for The Prince's Trust, said Enron had been a major corporate sponsor, donating about $705,000 in 1991 and about $425,000 in 1995-96.
