A public service announcement:
I recently came into some information concerning practices of torture, tortures that were done during the Spanish Inquisition. These were so horrid and counter productive that Torquemada the head of the Inquisition banned them. Sadly these ghastly torments have been revived and are used today and commonly. I feel it is my duty to expose this modern horror. To protect the sensibilities of the gentle reader I will be as brief as possible.
Inquistion torture:
Gaping fish--The prisoner had his jaws forced open, his jaws were open to extremes and he was left in this position for hours. While held like this horrid painful things were done to his mouth and teeth. [Torquemada banned this both for its inhumanity and because the prisoner could no longer functionally confess his sins.]
Modern Counterpart--"Hmmmm Looks like you are going to need a root canal."

The confessor--(so called because before banning no one successfully with stood this)--Objects of immense size (and invariably icy, icy cold) were placed in the most embarrassing positions possible to both male and female prisoners. [Torquemada banned this as inhumane and perverse.]
Modern Counterparts--(Male) "OK, now let's check that prostate" and (Female) "Alright my Dear, please place your feet in these stirrups."

The Devils Finger--Male prisoners of all sizes including grown and even over weight men were lifted first to their tiptoes then off the floor. This was done by the torturer using simply one strategically placed finger.
[Torquemada rightly saw this as horrid and as actually the practice of witchcraft by the torturers and had all of them executed.]
Modern Counterpart--"Turn your head and cough."
