I think you are ignoring the psychological aspects of owning a home. Most people buy a home because they want a place of their own, their very own back yard where they can plant flowers and watch them grow and bloom, where they have a feeling of security and of hope for the future. I don't know of any mother who wants to raise her children in an apartment. No way, any day. For me, the desire to raise my family in my own home outweighs any investment risk.
