I have been getting the feeling that the Oslo accords created an unworkable situation for all concerned by effectively creating two governments in the occupied territories, so that there is no one really in charge, and no one is capable of effectively defending themselves. At the time the accords were announced, I remember what a wonderful breakthrough everyone thought they were. I think many people were unaware of the problems in how they were created, as referred to in the link below, as well as the extent to which the accords were based on hoping for/believing in a miracle.
