Intel not guilty in EU complain

AMD, Via allegations unfounded
By Mike Magee, 03/02/2002 10:38:30 BST

REPORTS FROM Bloomberg quoted the office of the European Commission as saying Intel has been cleared of allegations that it engaged in practices which took advantage of its big market share in the CPU business.
AMD and Via had both alleged that Intel had used its Intel Inside programme and big rebates on its microprocessors which had harmed their businesses.

During last year, sources at AMD had claimed that Intel was subsidising the price of its Pentium 4 processors by as much as $50 a chip.

Last year we reported that AMD has applied to a US court for it to release details of a case between it and Intel - but that application was turned down by a judge.

But the Bloomberg report had a representative of the European Commission, the watchdog of the European Union on such matters, as saying the complaints are without foundation. µ
