While technically correct, it does create an organized location for private gun sales. It's private gun sales that allow about half the guns to make it into the illegal trade.

I have no issue with making the folks I buy/sell a gun from/to submit myself/themselves to a NICS check. As long as it doesn't add to the price of the transaction.

The government already knows I have about a dozen rifles and handguns, so knowing I have more doesn't really matter.
