Pat, I agree about these comments re the timing of investments in Small Caps as a group (& yes, I'm an AMTX bull) but you need to take the article you quoted with a very LARGE shaker of salt. The historical small cap outperformance is concentrated into a very few years over that time span. 95% or so of that time small caps underperformed... if you missed the very few years of their overperformance, you missed the entire run (if memory serves it was largely a few years in the 60's & a couple in the 70's - but I need to go back to the data to check the times). Sometimes (like for most of the last decade) Large Caps have a very LARGE performance advantage. The Small Cap Arguement is one that has been oversold by a lot of Investment Houses for marketing reasons, & recent academic research has examined the claims in a much more critical light.
